Curriculum Director

Laci Hitchcock is the Curriculum Director of Mary, Star of the Sea. Prior to joining MSOS this year, Laci spent two years teaching at an American International school in Dubai, where she was the Head of Grade 3, the K-5 Literacy Coach and an Apple Teacher. In her time teaching in Dubai, Laci co-launched a school literary magazine, led her inquiry team while focusing on critical thinking and learning across the curriculum, and developed a variety of technological skills such as: podcasting, digital portfolios, using the green screen and coding. 

  Before moving to Dubai, Laci was a third grade teacher here at MSOS for three years. Laci was also the curriculum coordinator for a small international school in Suriname and was the Head of Grade 1 and a first grade teacher in Bahrain. Laci holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, National Board Certification in Literacy ages 4-12 and a certificate of Leadership Impact from TELLAL’s Middle Leader  Program.

  Laci believes in fostering student curiosity through an inquiry, innovative and hands-on approach. She has a passion for literacy and instilling a love and appreciation for reading. Laci believes every child has the capability to learn and be successful, but just not in the same way. Learning needs to be personalized for each student’s strengths, needs, skills, and interests. Laci also believes social-emotional learning is an integral part of education. In Laci’s free time she loves to paint, go running and swim. She runs half marathons, marathons and completed her first 70.3 Ironman in 2020.
