Kalani Zalopany Memorial Scholarship Application - Mary Star of the Sea School Hawaii

The Kalani Zalopany Memorial Service Scholarship was created by anonymous donor(s) to honor the memory of Kalani Zalopany, a Mary, Star of the Sea (MSOS) alumnus. Kalani was an active student at MSOS where he served his school as Sergeant of Arms on the Student Council. Kalani enjoyed serving the entire MSOS student body, most especially the younger students who reveled in his presence.

Commitment

To provide a scholarship of $1,000.00 to a selected recipient for the 2024-25 academic year.

Eligibility

Current 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grader of Mary, Star of the Sea School
Currently active in serving God’s community – This can be a community at school, church, local neighborhood, or a larger community.
Will be continuing their Catholic education next year at Mary, Star of the Sea School OR, in the case of an 8th grader, at a recognized Catholic high school in the Diocese of Hawaii.

Application Package Contents

Before starting this application, please ensure you have the following ready:

1 to 2-page essay of how you have in the past and how you will continue in the future to serve God’s community including one paragraph of how you would honor the memory of Kalani Zalopany should you receive the award.
(2) letters of recommendation from members of the community you serve.
Proof of registration will be required before scholarship is awarded to the recipient. If candidate has not been accepted at the time of application deadline, then proof of registration may be submitted later.
A creative method of expressing how you serve
- Examples are (but not limited to) a poster, a video, a diorama, a collage, a song, etc. It is YOUR way of expressing your service. We would like it to show the student’s creativity.

Application Deadline

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application package by March 1, 2024.

Selection Process

The Scholarship recipient will be determined by the selection committee. The Scholarship will be awarded to the student at the School Awards Assembly at the end of the 2023-24 school year. Funds will be distributed directly to the school for the following 2024-25 academic school year.
